Sean Clifford Named Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford has been named this week’s Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.

Clifford wins the award for the second time this season, previously winning it after the Nittany Lions’ week one win over the Purdue Boilermakers. This is the fourth time that Clifford has won the award while at Penn State.

In Penn State’s 45-17 White Out win over Minnesota, Clifford balled out by completing 23-of-31 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns. With 23 pass completions, Clifford passed Trace McSorley to become the career completions leader at Penn State.

After starting the game with two straight three-and-out drives, a bad interception, and a good portion of the student section chanting “We Want Drew,” Clifford eventually found his stride.

At the half, Penn State led 17-10, and Clifford was ready to blow this game wide open. He led Penn State to three consecutive touchdown drives, with the first one being capped off by a big 35-yard touchdown catch by Parker Washington.

Clifford also passed 9,000 career passing yards Saturday, making him only the second Penn State quarterback to accomplish this feat. He now only trails Trace McSorley by 615 yards, which if he stays healthy, he’ll easily be able to pass some time this season.

The Nittany Lions improved to 6-1 with the win but will face their toughest test of the season so far when they host the undefeated No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes at noon this Saturday, October 29, at Beaver Stadium.
