Sean Clifford Starts At Quarterback Against Indiana
It’s not Drew Allar time yet, folks.
After a week full of questions and controversy, Sean Clifford is starting at quarterback for No. 15 Penn State football in its game against Indiana.
On Tuesday, eyebrows were raised when James Franklin didn’t name a starting quarterback during his weekly press conference, backtracking from his usual immovable public support of Clifford.
“We’re going to look at who gives us the best chance to be 1-0 this week and go from there,” Franklin said. “Whoever that is, based on this week’s practice and preparation, we’ll go with.”
Evidently, Franklin and his staff decided that the sixth-year signal-caller gives the Nittany Lions the best chance to win in Bloomington. Clifford has led the Nittany Lions to a 6-2 record so far this season with losses to Michigan and Ohio State.
The veteran quarterback has thrown for 1,816 yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions this year while completing his passes at a 62.8% clip. Clifford is 244 passing yards behind Trace McSorley’s record as the program’s all-time leading passer.
Allar, on the other hand, has appeared in six games this season and has thrown for 209 yards and two touchdowns. The true freshman has completed 18 of his 31 passes thus far.
