Penn State Women’s Soccer To Open NCAA Tournament As No. 2 Seed Against Quinnipiac

Update, November 8: Penn State women’s soccer’s matchup with Quinnipiac was rescheduled to 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, due to anticipated weather on Friday, November 11.

Original Story: Happy postseason, folks.

After Penn State women’s soccer was crowned Big Ten Tournament champion on Sunday, all eyes are now on the NCAA Tournament. The Nittany Lions landed the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a first-round home matchup.

So, with a new Big Ten trophy to boast and the home crowd at its back, Penn State will face off against Quinnipiac at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 11, at Jeffrey Field. This will be the two team’s first meeting.

A first-round win against the Bobcats would result in a rematch against West Virginia or a clash with Virginia Tech in the second round. Tennessee, Xavier, Virginia, and Fairleigh Dickinson round out the opponents in Penn State’s group of eight.

The Nittany Lions were one of five Big Ten teams to enter the 64-team field in this year’s tournament along with Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Rutgers.

At this point in its history, Penn State is an all-around regular in the NCAA Tournament with 28-straight appearances dating back to 1995, the longest streak in the nation. Last year, the Nittany Lions made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the tournament before getting knocked off by South Carolina. Throughout head coach Erica Dambach’s 15 years at the helm of the team, the coach has a 93% success rate of making it through the tournament’s first round.
