Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week 12 Recap

It was Thanksgiving week during week 12 of the NFL season, and many Nittany Lions put together great outings to help their respective teams pick up key wins.

From another multi-sack game for Micah Parsons to a career-high in rushing yards from Miles Sanders, Penn State was represented well this week.

As the season continues to forge on, here’s a look at some of the best performances by Penn Staters from this past week’s games.

Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles

Miles Sanders had quite the game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, as the Philadelphia Eagles running back was able to find the end zone twice in the Birds’ 40-33 win.

The Pittsburgh native scored his seventh and eighth touchdowns of the year and totaled 143 rushing yards and 17 receiving yards in the win. His 143 yards helped the Eagles combine for 363 total rushing yards in the game, which was the second most in franchise history.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After tearing his ACL late last season and struggling for much of this season, Chris Godwin had a standout game in Cleveland

Godwin hauled in 12 receptions for 110 yards and his second touchdown of the year in the Buccaneers’ 23-17 overtime loss to the Browns. While Tampa Bay hasn’t had the best season so far, Godwin’s improvement of play has helped the Bucs continue to stay in the hunt for the NFC South title.

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys

Micah Parsons feasted on Thanksgiving, as the second-year linebacker nabbed two sacks in a big 28-20 divisional win over the New York Giants.

The two sacks bring his total on the season to 12, which is one away from his total from last season. Parsons is in the running for Defensive Player of the Year, as he ranks second in sacks and is tied for second in forced fumbles.

Saquon Barkley, New York Giants

Playing in the same Thanksgiving game as Parsons was New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley, who has reemerged this season as one of the top running backs in all of the NFL, found the end zone yet again in Thursday’s loss.

While he did score his seventh touchdown of the year, the Nittany Lion was held to only 39 rushing yards and 13 receiving yards throughout the entire game.

DaQuan Jones, Buffalo Bills

The Bills’ defensive tackle also had a great Turkey Day, recording his best game of the season in a big 28-25 win over the Detroit Lions. DaQuan Jones recorded six tackles and his first full sack of the year, bringing his total to 1.5 this season.

Nick Scott, Los Angeles Rams

Nick Scott has become a huge part of the Rams’ defense this season and continued that great play in their week 12 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Scott recorded six tackles in the game and grabbed his second interception of the year in a 26-10 defeat.

This wasn’t the only loss the Rams suffered this weekend, as it was revealed that wide receiver and Nittany Lion Allen Robinson needs foot surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.

Other Notables

  • Green Bay Packers safety Adrian Amos recorded nine tackles, five of which were solo tackles, in a 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
  • Carl Nassib started his first game of the season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording three tackles and a half sack in their overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns.
  • San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould was perfect in Sunday’s 13-0 win over the New Orleans Saints. Gould made both a 24-yard and 46-yard field, as well as one extra point, to have a perfect kicking day.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth had a quiet night, hauling in three catches for 39 yards in the Steelers’ 24-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football.
