Penn State Football’s Abdul Carter Named Finalist For Shaun Alexander Freshman Of The Year
Penn State football linebacker Abdul Carter has been named a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, as announced on Thursday.
Carter is among five finalists for the award, joining Quinshon Judkins (RB, Ole Miss), Drake Maye (QB, North Carolina), Harold Perkins Jr. (LB, LSU), and Malaki Starks (S, Georgia).
Carter played in every game this season, starting in six of them. He had five or more tackles in seven games during the 2022 regular season.
Carter has totaled 55 tackles and 6.5 sacks, the latter being tied for most among FBS freshmen. He led the Nittany Lions in tackles for loss, sacks, and forced fumbles.
The linebacker’s play earned him second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and third-team recognition from the coaches. Carter was also named to the Pro Football Focus All-Freshman team.
Carter came to Penn State as a four-star prospect from the Philadelphia area. He was ranked as the No. 10th-best player in Pennsylvania and the 28th-best linebacker in the Class of 2022, according to 247Sports.
The winner of the award will be announced December 29.
