Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week 13 Recap

While Penn State football is getting ready to head to the Rose Bowl, many Nittany Lions showed out for their respective NFL teams during week 13 of the season.

Jahan Dotson, Saquon Barkley, and Pat Freiermuth all dazzled with big plays to make a difference for their teams, while Miles Sanders also found the end zone in the Eagles’ blowout win over the Colts.

Here’s a closer look at how some Penn Staters performed in this past week’s games.

Jahan Dotson, Washington Commanders

Jahan Dotson continues to make impactful plays for the Commanders. The rookie wide receiver caught his fifth touchdown of the year to tie up the game late in regulation.

Dotson, who suffered a hamstring injury that caused him to miss most of October, hauled in five receptions for 54 yards in the Commanders’ tie to the New York Giants.

Saquon Barkley, New York Giants

Also playing in that tie was New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who found the end zone for the eighth time this season.

In the game, Barkley had 63 yards on 18 carries and grabbed five catches for 18 yards. After the game, Barkley and Dotson swapped jerseys to celebrate the players’ first matchup with each other.

Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles

While it wasn’t the most efficient week for Miles Sanders, the Nittany Lion did find the end zone yet again for the Philadelphia Eagles.

It was the ninth rushing touchdown for Sanders, adding to his career-high. However, Sanders did rush for a season-low 24 yards in the Eagle’s 35-10 blowout win over the Tennessee Titans.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

In a down year for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pat Freiermuth continues to be a shining light for the future, That was on full display Sunday, as the tight end had a big catch and run in the Steelers’ win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Freiermuth hauled in three receptions for 76 yards in the Steelers’ 19-16 win over the Falcons as Pittsburgh improved to 5-7 on the season.

Robbie Gould, San Francisco 49ers

Robbie Gould couldn’t miss this past weekend, going 7-for-7 on kicks in the 49ers’ huge win over the Miami Dolphins. Gould went 4-for-4 on field goals, making kicks of 36, 43, 47, and 48 yards. Gould also made all three of his extra points in San Francisco’s 33-17 win over the Dolphins.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Chris Godwin showed up big for the Buccaneers in their comeback Monday night win over the New Orleans Saints. Godwin, who had the game-winning touchdown called back due to a penalty, still hauled in eight catches for 63 yards in Tampa Bay’s 17-16 win.

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys

It was a quiet week for Micah Parsons, as the Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite totaled only two tackles and one pass deflection in the Cowboys’ 54-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Other Notables

  • Jordan Stout had a career day for the Baltimore Ravens in their 10-9 win over the Denver Broncos. Stout had six punts in the game, five landing inside the 20. He totaled 303 yards on his punts, the first time the rookie has punted for over 300 yards in a game.
  • Los Angeles Rams safety Nick Scott totaled eight tackles in the Rams’ 27-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Carl Nassib picked up a big sack late in the Bucs’ comeback win over the New Orleans Saints.
