Report: Penn State Hoops To Play In 2023 ESPN Invitational

Penn State men’s basketball still has a lot of games left on its schedule, but it seems that one part of its 2023-24 non-conference schedule is coming together.

The Nittany Lions will participate in the 2023 ESPN Invitational, according to a report from college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.

Teams also reportedly involved in the tournament include Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Butler, Texas A&M, VCU, Boise State, and a MAAC team that has not been determined yet. Oklahoma won the 2022 ESPN Invitational over Ole Miss this season.

The field consists of a lot of familiar teams for Penn State. It beat Butler this season and lost to Virginia Tech. The Nittany Lions and VCU also have a history together, with the last game the two played ending in a Myles Dread buzzer-beater.

Penn State has to finish out this season’s non-conference schedule before thinking about 2023, and it’ll start that on Sunday, December 18, when it takes on Canisius. The game tips off at noon and can be seen on the Big Ten Network.

Micah Shrewsberry’s squad has posted a 7-3 record thus far this season with losses to Clemson, Michigan State, and Virginia Tech. Most recently, the Nittany Lions are coming off a blowout win over No. 17 Illinois.

“Many of the individuals who orchestrated this dangerous precedent campaigned on transparency, fairness, equity, and a change of organizational culture. None of those values were present on April 23, the night the president was impeached.”
