Penn State Football Signee Tony Rojas Named Virginia Gatorade Player Of The Year
Penn State football Class of 2023 signee Tony Rojas has been named the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year.
The linebacker totaled 72 tackles, 14 for a loss, and 13 sacks during the 2022 season. Additionally, he rushed for 2,239 yards and 35 touchdowns on the other side of the ball, despite being recruited as a linebacker by Penn State.
The award is given to athletes from multiple sports in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia to “recognize the nation’s most elite high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.”
Additionally, one student-athlete is annually nationally recognized. Last year, Nittany Lion running back Nick Singleton won the national award while at Governor Mifflin High School.
Rojas is a four-star prospect and the No. 3-ranked player in Virginia, according to 247Sports. Additionally, the website ranks the Fairfax product as the No. 7-best linebacker and the No. 111-best player overall.
