Brothers Bar & Grill Aiming To Open Location On Allen Street

A new sports bar, Brothers Bar & Grill, may be coming to downtown State College in the future, pending a liquor license transfer. It would be located at 134 S. Allen St., which is the former location of the Amazon pick-up store that closed in May. Champs is located right across the street.

Attorney Ellen M. Freeman requested a public hearing of the proposed liquor license transfer from Fuji & Jade Garden to Brothers, according to a document submitted to the State College Borough. The required hearing will occur at 6 p.m. on January 9.

Brothers (!) Marc and Eric Fortney opened the first Brothers location in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1990. The Allen Street location would be the first in Pennsylvania.

There are 17 locations across the midwest and several in other Big Ten towns, including Bloomington, Indiana; Columbus, Ohio; Iowa City, Iowa; Lincoln, Nebraska; and West Lafayette, Indiana.

The chain is described as a “modernized throwback to the old Midwestern corner tavern” that features sports bar staples, including big portions, lots of TVs, and drink specials. Lunch and dinner menu items include a variety of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, wings, and appetizers (think fried pickles).

The anticipated hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The seating capacity for tables, booths, and bar is 262 patrons.

The proposed liquor license relocation is slated for August 2023.
