A Nittany Lion Is Guaranteed To Play In Super Bowl LVII

It’s happening again, folks. A former Penn State football player will be playing for a Super Bowl title this year.

With the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers both securing wins during Super Wild Card Weekend, the NFC will have at least one Nittany Lion playing on Super Bowl Sunday.

This will be the 52nd time ever Penn State will be represented in the Super Bowl.

Miles Sanders — Philadelphia Eagles

Miles Sanders helped the Philadelphia Eagles lock up their second No. 1 seed in five years and enjoyed the much-needed bye week. Sanders was a huge part of the Eagles’ success this season, totaling 1,269 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, both of which are career highs.

Robbie Gould & Kevin Givens — San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers took care of business against the Seattle Seahawks, destroying them 41-23 on Saturday. San Francisco will host the winner of Monday night’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a chance to head to the NFC Championship.

Givens totaled two sacks for the 49ers this season, while Gould served as a consistent piece at kicker.

Saquon Barkley & Cam Brown — New York Giants

After upsetting the Minnesota Vikings on the road thanks in large part to the amazing play from Saquon Barkley, the New York Giants will travel to Philadelphia with a chance to make their first NFC Championship since the 2012 season.

Micah Parsons & Connor McGovern — Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will play in the final game of Super Wild Card Weekend Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Led by Defensive Player of the Year candidate Micah Parsons, the Cowboys will try to win their first playoff game since the 2018 season. Connor McGovern has served as a key piece for the Cowboys, too, as he starts at guard on their offensive line.

Chris Godwin, Donovan Smith & Carl Nassib — Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On the other side of Monday night’s game are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are aiming to win their second Super Bowl in three seasons. The Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady, have struggled for the majority of the season but have continued to build momentum down the stretch thanks to great play from Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Contributions from Carl Nassib and Donovan Smith have also helped the Bucs get to this point in the season.

Ryan Bates & DaQuan Jones — Buffalo Bills

The two lone Penn State representatives from the AFC are Ryan Bates and DaQuan Jones of the Buffalo Bills. With every remaining NFC team having Penn State representation, a Nittany Lion would be guaranteed to win Super Bowl LVII if the Bills made it to the big game.
