Penn State Men’s Hockey Stays Put At No. 6 In Latest USCHO Poll

Penn State men’s hockey locked in at No. 6 in Monday’s weekly USCHO poll. The poll comes after the Nittany Lions split their series with Notre Dame over the weekend.

Both games against the Fighting Irish came down to the wire. After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in game one, the Nittany Lions ended up losing 2-1 despite manufacturing 53 shots on goal.

The tides turned in game two, however, as Penn State outlasted Notre Dame 3-2 thanks to a late goal from Christian Sarlo in the annual Wear White game.

Penn State’s game two victory snapped a three-game winless streak. The Nittany Lions suffered a 3-2 overtime loss at Michigan State last Friday, then couldn’t get the job done the following night in a 5-4 shootout loss against the Spartans, although the series resulted in a tie.

There are several other Big Ten teams ranked in addition to Penn State including No. 2 Minnesota, No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Ohio State, and No. 15 Michigan State.

Penn State will travel to Ann Arbor to battle Michigan on Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. for both games at Yost Ice Arena.
