Fall 2023 Students Teaching Students Applications Open Through February 5

Update, 1/31: The application deadline has been extended one week and applications are now due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, February 5.

Original story: Penn State’s Student Teaching Students (STS) program opened its instructor applications for the fall 2023 semester this past week. All applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 29.

The program seeks to offer undergraduate students the opportunity to create and teach classes that they want to see taught at Penn State.

Known as student instructors, the undergraduate course creators will receive guidance from multiple mentors to prepare for their semester of teaching, including assistance from instructional coaches at the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence.

The courses are typically worth one elective credit, and applicants have a full range of creativity when choosing a class topic. Current classes include “Navigating Your 20s” and “Rhetoric and Rap,” to name a few.

Completed applications must include a course idea, a draft syllabus, a “Faculty Champion” to support and sponsor their course, and a completed FERPA waiver. Applicants are also asked to answer background questions and short answer questions. Including a co-instructor is optional but highly encouraged.

The application form features a link to a checklist and an overview of the process for applicants to go over before applying.

Additional information on applications or other available positions can be found on the Students Teaching Students website or Instagram.
