Osaze Osagie State High Scholarship Renamed

The Osaze Osagie College Scholarship endowment committee announced its scholarship would be renamed to the Osaze’s Heart Community Service Scholarship. The committee feels it better represents the spirit of the scholarship and Osagie.

Osagie was fatally shot in his home in March 2019 when three police officers arrived to serve Osagie a mental health warrant. No officers were charged.

The annual scholarship was launched in 2021 and is awarded to a graduating senior from underrepresented groups at State High that has plans to serve the community. This scholarship is different from the Osaze Olufemi Osagie Memorial Scholarship for Educational Equity, which is given to Penn State students with intellectual and mental health diagnoses.

This year’s Osaze’s Heart Community Service Scholarship application opens on March 13 and closes on April 7. The application can be found here.

“My son was known for doing whatever he could to help others,” Iyun Osagie, his mother, said. “This new name, Osaze’s Heart Community Service Scholarship, is a perfect fit and truly honors Osaze’s legacy.”
