Penn State Men’s Volleyball Rises To Top Spot In AVCA Rankings
It’s a great time to be a Penn State volleyball fan, folks.
Rankings from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) put the Nittany Lions in the No. 1 spot following their dominant stretch.
There’s no doubt that Penn State’s rise in the rankings is attributed to its recent showings in the past few weeks. Then-No. 2 Penn State swept Saint Francis in a 3-0 home matchup last weekend and delivered a 3-0 win against Purdue Fort Wayne over break. Additionally, Penn State upset then-No. 1 Hawaii, the team it’s replacing in the top spot, 3-1 on March 11.
Hawaii faltered in its matchup with No. 4 Long Beach State on Friday, and the shocking upset from Penn State earlier in March was enough to boost the Nittany Lions to the No. 1 spot.
This is the first time since 2009 that Penn State has attained the top spot in the rankings. Men’s volleyball sits at 18-2 on the season with a home match against Ohio State up next at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21.
