Jalen Pickett, Other Team Leaders Want Adam Fisher As Penn State Hoops’ Next Head Coach
With Micah Shrewsberry reportedly heading to Notre Dame on a seven-year contract, Penn State men’s basketball is in the market for a new head coach. Four of this past season’s team leaders — Jalen Pickett, Myles Dread, Andrew Funk, and Cam Wynter — are all calling on Penn State Athletics to hire current assistant coach Adam Fisher as the program’s next coach.
Fisher, a 2006 Penn State alum, joined Micah Shrewsberry’s staff back in 2021 as the associate head coach and has served as a crucial piece to both the team’s on-court and recruiting success. Penn State signed it’s highest-ranked recruiting class in program history with the help of Fisher and Co.
The four seniors are all in agreement that the Nittany Lions’ next head coach should come from within, emphatically giving Fisher their endorsement.
Prior to his two years on Shrewsberry’s staff, Fisher spent six seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Miami, where he helped lead the Hurricanes to four consecutive postseason berths.
As of right now, Shrewsberry’s reported move to Notre Dame isn’t quite official, as neither program has made any announcements regarding the widely reported news. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported that Notre Dame will make the move official on Friday. Penn State Athletics hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
