A Penn Stater’s Guide To 2023 Graduation Gifts

Graduation is less than a month away, folks.

Whether you’re searching for the perfect gift for your son, daughter, grandchild, roommate, significant other, or yourself, we compiled the ultimate 2023 graduation gift guide so you don’t end up ordering something on Amazon at the last minute.

From local goodies to online gifts, there’s something for every graduate on this list. Just be sure to grab yours before they sell out!

Charcuterie Board

What says “adulting” more than a real charcuterie board? A Penn State-engraved board would be the perfect touch of Happy Valley in a new apartment. Student Book Store on College Avenue has plenty of options to choose from.

Drinkware

When celebrating a graduation, chances are you’re going to need something to drink champagne out of. In addition to charcuterie boards, Student Book Store has a wide variety of champagne flutes, wine glasses, and beer mugs. Cheers!

Mount Nittany Wine

Pop the top on a new chapter of life with some wine from Mount Nittany Vineyard and Winery. Heading up the mountain to the brick-and-mortar shop is definitely worth the trip, but you can also shop online if you’re not in town.

Old Main Necklace

Whether your graduate is heading to New York City, Australia, or staying right here in Pennsylvania, they can keep Penn State close to their heart with an Old Main necklace. The piece is available at many online shops, as well as Kranich’s Jewelers on North Atherton Street. The necklace also comes in a variety of metals and lengths.

House/Apartment Painting

Does your Nittany Lion have a special attachment to their house or apartment? Maybe it’s been passed down through generations, or maybe they just have a really cool porch. There are plenty of artists on Etsy who will commission custom artwork of houses or apartment buildings. You can also ask a talented friend if you’re lucky enough to know one.

Pennsylvania Candle

If your graduate is planning to move away after graduation, they’ll probably miss the fresh, central Pennsylvania air once they’re gone. With a Pennsylvania-scented candle, they can close their eyes and transport back to Happy Valley whenever they please. Homesick sells candles for each state, and you can add a personalization, too.

State College Bar Apparel

Pretty much every State College bar has some sort of apparel or knickknack you can buy if you just ask. Doggie’s Pub has hoodies, Antifragile has hats, and McLanahan’s and Student Book Store sell signs for nearly every spot downtown.

Nittany Lion Wallet

This gift is sure to get a lot of use. With that awesome job your graduate has lined up, they’re definitely going to need somewhere to store all their hard-earned cash. Smathers & Branson makes a needlepoint wallet that can be monogrammed for some extra personalization.

Penn State Stationary

Speaking of a new job, your graduate will probably need a few things to spruce up their office. The Nittany Quill on Fraser Street has plenty of Penn State-branded correspondence cards, as well as framed Penn State quotes.

Rose Bowl Sweatshirt

What better gift is there for a 2023 graduate than a 2023 Rose Bowl sweatshirt? This is definitely a piece they’ll hold onto forever. Plus, they can pass it along to their future kids when it becomes ~vintage~.

2023 Rose Bowl merchandise is available at almost every apparel store downtown: McLanahan’s, Lion’s Pride, and Student Book Store, to name a few. You can also buy some items online.

Of course, after all you’ve done for your graduate, they’ll be just as happy with a pat on the back and a “congratulations,” too.
