Big Ten Announces Penn State Football’s Conference Opponents For 2024 & 2025
The Big Ten announced the conference’s schedule for the 2024 and 2025 seasons Thursday.
The conference will scrap its east and west divisions beginning in 2024 and implement protected rivalries. Penn State, however, doesn’t have a protected rivalry but will face USC, Michigan State, and Rutgers in both 2024 and 2025.
Penn State has five home games and four away games in its 2024 Big Ten schedule, with notable home matchups against Ohio State and conference newcomer USC. Meanwhile, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Northwestern will also battle the Nittany Lions in Beaver Stadium.
James Franklin’s squad will head to Indiana, Rutgers, Purdue, and Wisconsin in 2024.
In 2025, Penn State’s Big Ten schedule has four home games and five away games. Arguably the Nittany Lions’ most notable home opponent is UCLA, the other Big Ten newcomer in addition to the Trojans. Illinois, Minnesota, and Rutgers are Penn State’s other conference home opponents.
Penn State’s other away opponents are USC, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, and Maryland.
Another significant aspect of Penn State’s schedule moving forward is the teams it’s guaranteed to play. Eleven rivalries, including Ohio State-Michigan and UCLA-USC, for instance, will be played annually. However, Penn State is the only school without a protected matchup. Iowa, on the other hand, has three protected rivalries, which is the most in the Big Ten.
Although Penn State doesn’t have any protected rivalries, teams are guaranteed to play each other at least twice in a four-year period.
The Big Ten Championship game will feature the top two teams of the conference now that divisions will no longer exist in 2024.
