Penn State Football’s Nick Singleton Named To Maxwell Award Watch List

Penn State football running back Nick Singleton earned a spot on the Maxwell Award Watch List Monday, which honors the nation’s top college football player.

Singleton joins 11 Big Ten athletes named to the Maxwell Award Watch List and is the lone sophomore representing the conference. Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin each boasted awardees, too.

The running back notched a record 12 rushing touchdowns in his freshman season and tallied a total of 1,061 rushing yards. Singleton registered eight starts through 13 appearances in 2022 and led Penn State in rushing yards by way of 156 carries. The true freshman and Pennsylvania native broke Noah Cain’s previous rushing touchdown record (eight) with 12 touchdowns througout the blue and white’s 11-2 season.

Singleton was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned True Freshman All-American designations from multiple outlets in his first outing as a Nittany Lion.
