Penn State Football’s 2023 Season Betting Lines

Penn State football is finally back in four days, folks.

The suspense has been building all offseason for the Nittany Lions following a 10-2 regular season finish and Rose Bowl victory to close out the 2022 campaign.

Additionally, former No. 1 quarterback prospect Drew Allar is expected to land the starting job under center, so the national media and fans alike have been incessantly discussing the program’s heightened ceiling with the Ohio native at the helm. But, how has the external hype affected the Nittany Lions’ betting odds?

Although Penn State’s first matchup against West Virginia is just days away, FanDuel Sportsbook has only released the betting lines for four of the Nittany Lions’ 12 regular season games.

  • September 2: West Virginia at Penn State (-20.5)
  • September 23: Iowa at Penn State (-10.5)
  • October 21: Penn State (+10.5) at Ohio State
  • November 11: Michigan at Penn State (+2.5)

Similarly to last year, Penn State is a whopping 10.5-point favorite in its White Out game against the Hawkeyes. Moreover, it’s worth noting the Nittany Lions are only 2.5-point underdogs to Michigan in the teams’ presumed Big Noon Kickoff matchup at Beaver Stadium. Last year, the Wolverines were favored by 6.5 points, further emphasizing the offseason development of the Nittany Lions.

The blue and white’s win total has increased by 1.5 wins to 9.5 this year, and the odds for Penn State to go all the way have improved by more than 50%.

  • More than 9.5 wins: -140
  • Under 9.5 wins: +114
  • To win the Big Ten East: +470
  • To win the Big Ten Championship: +600
  • To make the College Football Playoff: +460
  • To win the College Football Playoff: +2000
  • To go undefeated in the regular season: +1000

Penn State is once again the third-most favored team to potentially win the Big Ten behind Michigan and Ohio State. Additionally, Allar has higher odds than any other Nittany Lion to win the Heisman Trophy. He’s currently sitting at a +2500 underdog to win the award, meaning a $1 bet would net you $25 in return if it happens.

Penn State opens the season against West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 2 at Beaver Stadium, with the game to be televised on NBC.
