Drew Allar Named Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar has been named this week’s Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. He becomes the first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for Penn State since Sean Clifford in October 2022.

Allar wins the award for the first time in his career after showing out in his first career start for the Nittany Lions in their week one 38-15 win over West Virginia.

In the win, Allar threw for three touchdowns, 325 yards, and recorded threw passes at a 72% completion rate. On the opening drive for Penn State, Allar tossed a huge 72-yard touchdown pass to KeAndre Lambert-Smith for his first passing touchdown of 2023.

Going into the second half, Penn State led 14-7, not before Allar hooked up with Lambert-Smith for his second touchdown of the night, this time a 12-yard pass into the back of the endzone.

Allar’s third touchdown was a 25-yard toss to transfer Malik McClain midway through the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach for the Mountaineers. Allar became the first Penn State quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in his first career start since Michael Robinson against Wisconsin in 2003.

The Nittany Lions improved to 1-0 on the season and will now host Delaware on Saturday, September 9, at Beaver Stadium.
