Getting To Know Penn State Men’s Hockey’s Freshman Class

After a successful season that ended with a trip to the NCAA Regional Final, Penn State men’s hockey is entering the 2023-24 season facing a significant amount of player turnover.

However, head coach Guy Gadowsky hit the recruiting trail and added five new freshmen to his roster ahead of puck drop on the new season on Saturday, October 7.

Before the season gets underway, let’s meet the newest Nittany Lions of Pegula Ice Arena.

Casey Aman

Casey Aman spent the past two seasons with the Powell River Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League.

As a defenseman, Aman scored 17 goals along with 46 assists during his career with the River Kings. The Johnstown, Pennsylvania, native was named the River Kings’ top defenseman during his last two seasons, while also earning the team’s 2021 MVP distinction.

Matt DiMarsico

Matt DiMarsico spent the 2022-23 season with the Green Bay Gamblers where he tallied 46 total points through 25 goals and 21 assists.

The forward scored a team-best 25 goals, which cracked the top 20 in the United States Hockey League (USHL). DiMarsico attended Avon Old Farms prep school for the 2021 season where he scored 16 goals and 20 assists in 27 games played.

Aiden Fink

Recent Nashville Predators draft pick Aiden Fink spent the past two seasons with the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

The Calgary, Alberta, native was named the MVP and top forward of both the AJHL and Canadian Junior Hockey League. The forward had a league-best 97 points in just 54 games. Fink is also a two-time Centennial Cup champion.

Dane Dowiak

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dane Dowiak spent the past two seasons with the Tri-City Storm.

During his 116 games with the Storm, Dowiak tallied 32 and 31 assists. During the 2021 season, Dowiak helped the Storm win the Anderson Cup Title awarded to the USHL regular-season champion.

Reese Laubach

Reese Laubach, a San Jose, California, native, was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Laubach spent the past two seasons in the USHL where he scored 11 goals with 13 assists to total 24 points. The forward also led the Northstar Christian Academy to back-to-back North American Prospect Hockey League Championships with nearly 100 goals in 139 games.

The rookies, along with the rest of Penn State, will travel to East Meadow, New York, to open the season against Long Island. The game is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
