Pure Barre, a mix of pilates, yoga, and ballet, is joining the fitness community of State College at 19 Colonnade Way, next to the UPS Store and Crumbl Cookies off of North Atherton Street.

The studio has an anticipated opening in January.

The 55-minute Pure Barre workout is low-impact and recommended by doctors for people with back and joint issues. The classes are described as low intensity and low impact, and the workouts are open to all ages and skill levels.

Erin Ruggles, the State College Pure Barre’s owner, is excited to return to Central Pennsylvania and hopes to share her passion for Pure Barre with the community. Ruggles commends the studio’s positive environment as a major trait that drew her to the company and is what sets the classes apart from other fitness franchises.

“I feel like something that’s really pushed is in the fitness industry is everything’s like, ‘How can I lose weight, how can I get skinnier?’ And what I loved about Pure Barre is we want you to be strong. We want you to be confident and know your abilities,” Ruggles said.

The studio will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

General classes on Saturdays and Sundays also end in the afternoon, leaving the rest of the day open for reserved group classes like club bonding events or bachelorette parties.

Aside from fitness, Pure Barre also has a boutique that sells popular fitness brands like Lululemon, Alo, Free People, Spiritual Gangster, and Beyond Yoga.

Folks interested in purchasing memberships can utilize Pure Barre’s “pre-sale founders’ rate” at $99 per month for life along with unlimited classes.

“I went to college in Pittsburgh, but I’ve just always admired the community that is Penn State. It’s unreal. It’s such an incredible, tight-knit community,” Ruggles said. “That just excites me to know that people are going to be in Pure Barre, and I’m able to be a part of that. I feel so lucky, too. Penn State is so cool.”

Updates about the studio’s opening date can be found on Pure Barre State College’s Instagram and Facebook.
