Olu Fashanu Named Lombardi Award Semifinalist
Penn State offensive lineman Olu Fashanu was named a Lombardi Award semifinalist, the Rotary Club of Houston announced. The award honors the most outstanding linemen in college football.
Fashanu has also been named to the AP All-American Second Team, the Reese’s Senior Bowl Midseason All-American team, and a William V. Campbell Trophy finalist as well.
Fashanu, who has yet to allow a sack in his collegiate career, is one of 12 semifinalists for the award. Other semifinalists include Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt, Illinois defensive lineman Jer’Zan Newton, and Michigan guard Zak Zinter.
In a press release, the Rotary Club of Houston said that Fashanu contributed “significantly to Penn State’s offensive success. Fashanu’s scouting report underscores his immense potential as an early-first-round NFL draft pick, with a rare blend of athleticism, elite pass protection abilities, and a strong foundation.”
Fashanu and the No. 11 ranked Nittany Lions travel to Maryland on Saturday for a Big Ten East matchup with the Terrapins at 3:30 p.m. on FOX.
