Penn State Football Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz Nominated For Broyles Award

For the second year in a row, Penn State football defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was nominated for the Broyles Award, which honors the best assistant coach in college football.
The award committee released its list of 57 nominees Tuesday and the Nittany Lion defensive coordinator is a familiar one.
Diaz was nominated for the award last year, too. He was named a semifinalist last season, though TCU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Garret Riley secured the award.
In Diaz’s second season as acting defensive coordinator, he’s built one of the best defenses in the country, leading his unit to a No. 2 ranking in yards allowed and rushing yards. Penn State is also No. 4 in opponent scoring and allows just 13.1 points per game.
The winner of the Broyles Award will be announced December 5.
