Kotelnicki joined the Jayhawks as the offensive coordinator in May 2021 and was promoted to associate head coach in December 2022. In 2022, he oversaw a potent offense that finished as one of the best in Kansas’ history.
This season, the Jayhawks averaged seven yards per play, which was second in the nation. Kansas also averaged 33.9 points per game, which was ranked No. 30 in the country, 434 yards per game, which was No. 29, and 7.01 yards per play which ranked eighth.
Kansas went 6-7 in 2022 but improved to 8-4 this season. Kolenitcki has experience in college football, with stops at Buffalo, Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Mary, Wisconsin-River Falls, and Western Illinois dating back to 2004.
Kotelnicki will reportedly replace Mike Yurcich, who was dismissed following Penn State’s 24-15 loss to Michigan. Running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider and tight ends coach Ty Howle ran the offense for the remaining two games of the season.
