Penn State Field Hockey’s Sophia Gladieux & Mackenzie Allessie Named All-Americans

Penn State field hockey stars Sophia Gladieux and Mackenzie Allessie were named All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Tuesday.

Gladieux was named to the first team for the third straight year, while Allessie was named to the third team for the second time. This is Gladieux’s fourth All-American selection and Allessie’s fifth.

Gladieux led the Nittany Lions in scoring with a team-high 21 goals and three assists. Throughout her four-year career so far, Gladieux recorded 74 goals through 72 starts. She has 158 points over more than 3,100 minutes played.

Allessie, meanwhile, registered nine goals and 23 points this season. After spending her first two years of collegiate eligibility at Ohio State, Allessie finished her career with 61 goals and 45 assists for a career total of 171 points. Allessie will depart Happy Valley as a five-time first-team All-Big Ten selection.

Penn State finished its first season under Lisa Bervinchak Love 9-8 and 4-4 in conference play. The Nittany Lions’ postseason play came to a close in a double-overtime loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament, and the team wasn’t included in selection for the NCAA Tournament.
