Penn State Football Special Teams Coordinator Stacy Collins Officially Hired By Boise State
Penn State football special teams coordinator Stacy Collins is officially off to Boise State.
Collins will serve as the Broncos’ assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, and inside linebackers coach, the university announced Monday. Collins’ move was first reported on Friday.
“To have someone with the level of expertise and experience as Stacy Collins want to come back to Boise State is truly a blessing,” Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson said. “Stacy is one of the best special teams coaches that I have ever come across and an elite linebackers coach. He does an amazing job of developing young men on and off the field and the amount that he cares about his players is second to none. I’m incredibly excited to get to work with him again.”
Collins spent the previous two seasons at Penn State as the Nittany Lions’ special teams coordinator, outside linebackers coach, and nickelbacks coach. Collins’ special teams finished No. 22 in the country this past season. The group had 57 touchbacks, 286 opposing kickoff return yards, and 16.82 yards per game.
Collins steadily improved the kickoff return unit in Happy Valley. The group, which had 18.53 yards per return in 2021, saw an increase to 22.35 in 2022, and then 23.25 this past season. Much of that can also be attributed to Nick Singleton, who has been the team’s primary kickoff returner for the last two seasons. He went on to earn second-team All-Big Ten honors as a return specialist in 2022. Additionally, Collins developed Chris Stoll, who won the Patrick Mannelly Award, which honors the nation’s best long-snapper.
“My family and I are so excited to get back to Boise State and the Treasure Valley,” Collins said. “We know how special of a place it is and what can be achieved there, which is why I’m proud to Bleed Blue! I am really looking forward to continuing building off the momentum from last season. It is an honor to be able to work under the leadership of Spencer Danielson and Jeremiah Dickey. I am so fortunate to have maintained relationships with players and staff on the team from my time there and I cannot wait to get back to work with them.”
James Franklin will officially need to fill a third coordinator vacancy after adding Andy Kotelnicki and Tom Allen to the staff. Vanderbilt special teams coordinator Justin Lustig is reported to be Franklin’s incoming candidate, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
