Penn State Classes To Begin At 10 A.M. Friday At University Park

Penn State University Park classes will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 19, the university announced Thursday evening in anticipation of overnight winter weather.

All on-campus activities, work, and classes from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. are canceled, and only employees who perform essential services should report to campus.

State College is expected to receive between one and three inches of snow beginning Thursday night and extending into Friday afternoon, according to AccuWeather. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Centre County from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, temperatures will hover around 23° at 10 a.m. with a real feel of 18°. The Friday high temperature is 25° and the low is 19°.

If an in-person class is scheduled for before 10 a.m., an instructor can’t adjust the session to an online synchronous class. Hybrid classes scheduled for 10 a.m. will not meet in person, though can be offered asynchronously. Meanwhile, web classes will continue with no changes.

All classes, activities, and work scheduled to begin at or after 10 a.m. will take place as normal unless otherwise noted.

For updates on further delays or cancelations, students, faculty, and staff should sign up for PSUAlerts. The same information can be found on Facebook and Twitter for parents and community members, too.

University Police and other emergency services will continue operations throughout inclement weather to ensure campus safety.

State College, Penns Valley, Bald Eagle, and Tyrone school districts are all either closed or on a flexible instruction model Friday.
