Big Ten & SEC To Form College Athletics Advisory Group

The Big Ten and SEC will collaborate to form a joint advisory board to address the “significant challenges facing college athletics,” the conferences announced Friday.

The advisory board will be made up of university leaders, including presidents, chancellors, and athletic directors from schools in both conferences. Overall, the group will focus on challenges unique to student-athletes and college athletics, which will ultimately attempt to achieve a “sustainable future for college athletics.”

When necessary, the advisory board plans to have interactions with student-athletes and other leadership groups from both conferences. For now, it will have no authority in decision-making and will serve solely for consulting.

“The Big Ten and the SEC have substantial investment in the NCAA and there is no question that the voices of our two conferences are integral to governance and other reform efforts,” Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti said. “We recognize the similarity in our circumstances, as well as the urgency to address the common challenges we face.”

There are currently no details available regarding specific members of the advisory board or the timeline for its formation.
