Penn State Women’s Soccer Alumna Leads U-17 United States Youth National Team To Concacaf Championship

Former Penn State women’s soccer forward Katie Schoepfer coached the U-17 United States Youth National Team (USYNT) to a Concacaf Championship victory Sunday.

The U-17 team overpowered Mexico 4-0 to clinch the United States’ fourth straight tournament championship. Schoepfer, a Nittany Lion from 2006 to 2008, was named the head coach of the team in May 2023 after leading the U-15 group for two years.

With the victory, the team qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Schoepfer was a two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten selection during her time in Happy Valley and recorded 13 game-winning goals. She registered 35 goals and 20 assists en route to four Big Ten Championships.

On the pitch, Penn State women’s soccer signee and USYNT veteran Katie Scott held down the United States’ backline throughout tournament play in Toluca, Mexico.

Though she typically operates as a forward, Scott has filled in as a defensive midfielder and outside back for the national team. Her offensive prowess wasn’t tamed, though, and Scott tallied a goal in the United States’ 13-0 victory over Panama.

Scott committed to the Nittany Lions in November 2022 and stands as TopDrawerSoccer’s No. 26-ranked prospect in the nation.

Schoepfer, Scott, and the United States will begin training for the U-17 Women’s World Cup which is slated to kick off in October.
