Former Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Star Jack Traynor Shines In PLL Champion Series Debut

In a hectic weekend in professional lacrosse, former Penn State men’s lacrosse star Jack Traynor was a success in his first career Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Championship Series.

Traynor went undrafted in the 2023 PLL Draft last spring, but he found his way onto the Philadelphia Waterdogs’ roster in time for the 2024 PLL Championship Series. The tournament is an Olympic stay, six-on-six, round-robin event that features the top-four teams from the year prior.

Traynor, typically an attackman, had to adjust to the new sixes’ rules with no specialist positions and just six runners. The Downingtown, Pennsylvania, native proved versatile as he recorded 14 points through five games.

Traynor scored seven one-point goals, three two-point goals, and one assist on the Waterdogs’ way to a loss in the finals. The former Penn State star displayed his big game presence, scoring four of his goals in the final, including a two-pointer.

Traynor was joined by another once-Nittany Lion as Kevin Winkoff, another star of the 2023 Penn State team, made his debut this past weekend. Winkoff made two appearances for the Utah Archers and scored twice, including a two-pointer.

Traynor and Winkoff faced off in the semifinal game of the championship series as Traynor and the Waterdogs took the win 27-21. The Waterdogs later fell in the final to the Boston Cannons 23-22 in overtime.
