Report: Puff Johnson To Return To Penn State Hoops For Fifth Year
Penn State men’s basketball forward Puff Johnson is reportedly returning to Happy Valley for his fifth year of eligibility, according to CBS Sports Insider Jon Rothstein.
Johnson transferred to the Nittany Lions under first-year head coach Mike Rhoades after three years at North Carolina.
Johnson registered an average of 7.6 points, 0.2 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game through 20 appearances and eight starts.
The forward tallied a season-high 19 points in Penn State’s March 2 battle with Minnesota in the team’s final regular-season game on the back of seven field goals and four triples converted.
The Moon Township, Pennsylvania, native committed to North Carolina in 2020 and recorded two starts through 51 appearances. In North Carolina’s 2022 NCAA Tournament run that concluded in a National Championship berth, Johnson put together an average of 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 11.3 minutes across six games.
Johnson was the fourth transfer to pledge to Rhoades after he took over the blue and white in March 2023. Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Ace Baldwin Jr. has yet to announce if he’ll return to Happy Valley under Rhoades for his final year of eligibility.
