Department Of Animal Science To Hold 22nd Annual Quarter Horse Sale

Penn State’s annual Equine Science Showcase and Quarter Horse Sale will return for its 22nd year in 2024. The event will be held on Saturday, April 27, at the Snider Agricultural Arena.

The sale is the culmination of work done in Animal Science 117: Equine Marketing. Over 60 students in the course are tasked with finding sponsorships, creating advertisements, and training the young horses.

Bidding on the horses will take place online from April 27 to April 30. This year, there are a total of 14 quarter horses available for sale.

The event will not only host the quarter horse sale but will also serve as a way for Penn State’s equine science program to show off its facilities and the work being done within the program.

On the showcase side of things, students will provide tours of the new and old horse barns, which allow a closer view of the facilities and other horses that reside at Penn State. All of Penn State’s equestrian clubs will also be represented, including Collegiate Horseman’s Association of Penn State (CHAPS), the Penn State Equestrian Team, and the Penn State Equine Research Team.

Aside from the tours, attendees can learn about the ongoing equine research within the animal science department and can participate in a silent auction. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Ward Studebaker Horse Farm Endowment, which provides financial support for Penn State’s horse farm.

More information about the sale will be made available in the coming weeks on the Penn State Quarter Horse Sale website.
