Four Penn State Men’s Volleyball Players Earn AVCA All-American Honors
Four Penn State men’s volleyball players were named to All-American rosters, the AVCA announced Monday. John Kerr was given first-team honors, Toby Ezeonu and Ryan Merk were named to the second team, and Owen Rose was an honorable mention.
Earlier this month, Kerr earned EIVA first-team honors and was named the EIVA Player of the Year. The fifth-year senior was a big part of the Nittany Lion’s success in the EIVA conference tournament. Kerr racked up 50 kills, five aces, and 17 digs in the two games. His performance puts him at 406 kills, 28 aces, and a .373 hitting percentage on the year heading into the NCAA Tournament.
This was Ezeonu’s third AVCA All-American honor. The New Jersey native was an honorable mention in 2022 and earned first-team honors in 2023.
As for Merk, this was the first time he earned second-team honors as he was an honorable mention in 2023. For Rose, this is the second straight year he was named an honorable mention.
Kerr and the Nittany Lions play UC Irvine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, in Long Beach California.
