Former Penn State Football Defensive Back Grant Haley Retires From Football

Former Penn State defensive back and NFL player Grant Haley announced his retirement from football in an Instagram post on Sunday night. Nearly a decade after sending Beaver Stadium into a frenzy after upsetting Ohio State, Haley officially hung up his cleats.

“I have been trying to find the words to express my decision to end a chapter of my life that has provided me with profound memories, the definition of sacrifice, dedication, and competition, but most importantly provided me with family for life,” Haley wrote.

“I close this chapter grateful with an abundant amount of respect for the game of football,” he continued. “Forever grateful for the NY Giants/ NO Saints/ LA Rams for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. I hope that my journey gives others the belief that the only limits in life are those that we set for ourselves! All glory to God.”

Haley spent four seasons in Happy Valley from 2014-17. He racked up 139 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, and two sacks. He was, of course, responsible for the “Kick Six”, a 60-yard touchdown return after a blocked field goal that sealed the deal on Penn State’s 23-21 upset win over No. 2 Ohio State in 2016.

Haley spent five years in the NFL. He played for the New York Giants from 2018-19, the New Orleans Saints in 2020, and the Los Angeles Rams from 2021-22.

Haley was a member of the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI Championship roster. He had one interception in 2020, 94 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and one sack in his career.
