Andrew Rappleyea Suffers Long-Term Injury

Penn State football tight end Andrew Rappleyea has suffered a long-term injury, James Franklin announced at his media availability on Tuesday. The announcement comes after Rappleyea was inactive during Saturday’s game against Bowling Green.

Franklin didn’t comment on the nature of the redshirt freshman’s injury or how long he’s expected to be out.

Rappleyea was a talking point after seeing extended action in Penn State’s season opener against West Virginia because of an injury to tight end Khalil Dinkins.

Rappleyea appeared in three games during his true freshman season last year. Despite not recording a stat in the game against West Virginia, Rappleyea impressed with blocking and route-running talent.

With Rappleyea out and Dinkins back in the lineup, redshirt freshman Joey Schlaffer and freshman Luke Reynolds are likely to see more action at the position.
