Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Four Roundup

With week four of the NFL season wrapped up, there was an abundance of former Penn State football players competing over the weekend.

While Penn State football brought the energy to a 21-7 win over Illinois, there was still plenty for the Nittany Lion fans to cheer for beyond Saturday.

Let’s see how these familiar faces performed in the fourth week of the 2024 NFL season.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Coming off the back of a monstrous game against the New Orleans Saints in week three, running back Saquon Barkley had 10 carries for 84 yards in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 33-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Barkley had over 100 total yards as he added two receptions for 32 yards to his stat sheet.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On the other side of the Buccaneers-Eagles game, wide receiver Chris Godwin caught six passes for 69 yards in the Buccaneers’ victory. Godwin has had an impressive start to the season and hauled in at least six passes in all of his appearances so far.

Jaquan Brisker, Chicago Bears

Safety Jaquan Brisker had a monster day as he registered eight solo tackles, four assisted tackles, one sack, one interception, and a pass deflection in the Chicago Bears’ 24-18 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Brisker, a third-year safety, leads the Bears in combined tackles with 35.

Odafe Oweh, Baltimore Ravens

Defensive end Odafe Oweh recorded two tackles and one sack in the Baltimore Ravens’ 35-10 blowout victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football. This gave Oweh a total of 3.5 sacks over his first four games of the season, a pace that brings much joy to Ravens and Penn State fans alike.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Tight end Pat Freiermuth had his best performance of the season so far, reeling in five catches for 57 yards and one touchdown. Despite Freiermuth’s performance, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost 27-24 to the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys

Defensive end Micah Parsons recorded two solo tackles in the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 win against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. Parsons left the game in the fourth quarter with what was confirmed to be a high left ankle sprain, which could leave the legendary Nittany Lion sidelined for a couple of weeks.

Other Notables

  • Safety Ji’Ayir Brown amassed five solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and one pass defended in the San Francisco 49ers’ victory over the New England Patriots.
  • Punter Jordan Stout recorded four punts for 177 yards in the Ravens’ Sunday Night Football victory over the Bills.
  • Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. had three solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and one pass defended in the Steelers’ 27-24 loss to the Colts.
