Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Five Roundup

With the fifth week of the NFL season concluding, plenty of familiar Penn State faces balled out for their respective teams.

The Nittany Lions handled business this past Saturday afternoon, defeating UCLA 27-11 in Beaver Stadium. After Penn State took care of the Bruins, though, many former players took the field on Sunday.

Let’s see how the Nittany Lions fared in this week’s NFL action.

Jaquan Brisker, Chicago Bears

Safety Jaquan Brisker totaled five tackles, one forced fumble, and one pass defended in the Chicago Bears’ 36-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. The forced fumble came from Brisker’s massive hit on Panthers’ tight end Tommy Tremble.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Against the Atlanta Falcons, wide receiver Chris Godwin totaled 64 receiving yards on five receptions and carried the ball once for two yards for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The eight-year NFL veteran is seventh in receiving yards in the NFL through week five.

Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

Tight end Brenton Strange stepped up in the absence of Jacksonville Jaguars starting tight end Evan Engram against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Strange recorded 24 receiving yards on four receptions and a touchdown for the Jaguars’ first win of the season.

Joey Porter Jr., Pittsburgh Steelers

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. picked off Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-17 loss on Sunday. Porter also recorded four tackles and one pass defended.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

After last week’s touchdown against the Colts, tight end Pat Freiermuth got back into the end zone after the Porter interception in the fourth quarter. Freiermuth also hauled in three receptions for 22 yards Sunday night.

Theo Johnson, New York Giants

Rookie tight end Theo Johnson put together a solid performance in the New York Giants’ 29-20 win against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Johnson totaled a season-high 48 yards on five receptions, he caught a 22-yard pass from quarterback Daniel Jones to put them within scoring position.

Other Notables:

  • Panthers safety Nick Scott totaled five tackles and one pass defended in the team’s 36-10 loss to the Bears on Sunday.
  • Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones had five solo tackles and one assisted tackle in the Buffalo Bills 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans.
  • Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki had a palatable performance against the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday. Gesicki brought in two receptions, tallying 31 yards through the air. The Bengals lost to the Ravens 41-38 in an overtime thriller.
