Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Seven Roundup

The NFL has wrapped up its seventh week of the 2024 season.

Despite Penn State having its second bye week of the season, Nittany Lion alumni kept the Penn State faithful engaged as they eagerly anticipate the team’s trip to Wisconsin next Saturday.

Let’s take a look at how Penn Staters showcased their talents during week seven of NFL action.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Running back Saquon Barkley erupted in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 28-3 victory over the New York Giants. The former Giant was met with boos in his first game at MetLife Stadium as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Barkley rushed for 176 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown, averaging 10.4 yards per carry.

The Eagles running back also hauled in two receptions for 11 yards and reached a career-best top speed of 21.93 mph in Sunday’s contest. Barkley’s 187 total yards of offense exceeded the entire Giants offense, which totaled 119 yards collectively.

Additionally, Barkley broke the Eagles’ record for the most rushing yards through the first six games of a season, totaling 659 rushing yards. The record was held by former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, who rushed for 630 yards through six games in the 2013 NFL season. This was simply a career day for the Nittany Lion.

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

During the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ contest against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, wide receiver Chris Godwin was carted off the field with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury with just 43 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Following the game, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Godwin dislocated his ankle, an injury that could potentially end his season, which could possibly end his time as a Buccaneer.

Before the injury, Godwin hauled in seven receptions for 65 yards. Godwin is set to enter free agency after this season.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars

Wide receiver Parker Washington etched his name in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ record book with an astonishing 96-yard punt return touchdown, marking the longest in both franchise and the NFL London series history. Washington didn’t register any receptions or carries in the Jaguars’ 32-16 victory over the New England Patriots in London.

Odafe Oweh, Baltimore Ravens

Linebacker Odafe Oweh had an impressive outing in the Ravens’ 41-31 win against the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Oweh recorded four total tackles and one sack, marking 4.5 sacks on the season for the former first-round pick.

DaQuan Jones, Buffalo Bills

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones recorded his second sack of the season in the Buffalo Bills’ 34-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans, taking down quarterback Mason Rudolph. The 11-year veteran also contributed one solo tackle and two quarterback hits during the game.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Tight end Pat Freiermuth had a solid outing in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 37-15 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football. The Nittany Lion had two receptions for 51 yards in primetime.

Joey Porter Jr., Pittsburgh Steelers

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. amassed two solo tackles and one assisted tackle in the Steelers’ victory over the Jets. While he hasn’t always been on the stat sheet, the second-year cornerback has been stellar for the Pittsburgh Steelers through seven games.
