Penn State Student Groups Announce Protests Against Donald Trump Rally

Update, Thursday, October 24:

The People’s Defense Front and the Student Committee for Defense and Solidarity released the following statement on Donald Trump’s rally at the Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday night.

“People’s Defense Front (PDF) and the Student Committee for Defense and Solidarity (SCDS) condemn right-wing extremist Donald Trump’s rally at the Bryce Jordan Center on Saturday, October 26,” the release read.”

“Donald Trump’s rally rhetoric explicitly marginalizes vulnerable groups, including people of color, queer people, immigrants, and those with disabilities. Trump’s presence here in State College invites physical violence against marginalized people. The number of assaults against non-white and queer people rises dramatically in the days following a Trump rally. There is no place for Trump and his hate in this community, and we strongly denounce the threat that this visit will bring to our community.”

Workers and students must unite to take a stand against white supremacy, queerphobia, and Zionism that Trump seeks to unleash on State College during his visit. It is our duty to defend our communities from the racism and hatred that Trump’s presence seeks to inflame in State College. On Saturday, October 26, PDF and SCDS invite workers and students to meet at 2 p.m. on the corner of College Avenue and Garner Street in downtown State College. Organizers and community members will march on Trump’s rally at the Bryce Jordan Center.”

The group plans to meet at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the corner of College Avenue and Garner Street in downtown State College. At 2:30 p.m., the group will march to the rally at the Bryce Jordan Center.

“Workers and students, we must unite to take a stand against white supremacy, queerphobia, and Zionism that Trump seeks to unleash on State College with his visit on Saturday!!” the announcement read. “It is our duty to defend our communities from racism and hate that Trump’s presence seeks to inflame in State College. Help us protect our communities from such racist violence by protesting Trump’s visit!! Let’s send the message through direct action that Trumpism is not welcome here!! No Trump, No KKK, No Fascists in PA!!”

The two groups have worked on protests in State College in the past. Notably, the groups organized a pro-Palestine rally that filled the streets of downtown State College. The organizations will also protest an Uncensored America event featuring Milo Yiannopoulos and Martin Shkreli on Monday, October 28, at the Bryce Jordan Center.
