Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Eight Roundup
The NFL wrapped up its eighth week of play, featuring a strong presence of Penn Staters throughout the league.
The No. 3-ranked Nittany Lions took care of business on Saturday, defeating the Wisconsin Badgers 28-13 at Camp Randall Stadium, maintaining its undefeated record. After it did that, Penn State alumni took to the field at the professional level with a mix of performances.
Let’s see how some Nittany Lions performed for their respective NFL teams in week eight.
Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles
Running back Saquon Barkley continued his illustrious 2024 campaign in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 37-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Barkley rushed for 108 yards on 22 attempts, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. It marked his fourth 100-yard game of the season for the Eagles. Barkley ranks second in total rushing with 766 yards behind Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, who sits atop the league with 946 rushing yards.
Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals
Tight end Mike Gesicki stood out in the Bengals’ loss to the Eagles on National Tight Ends Day. Gesicki totaled 73 yards on seven receptions, marking his best performance of the 2024 season.
Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars
Wide receiver Parker Washington recorded a solid stat line in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 30-27 nail-biting loss to the Green Bay Packers. Washington caught three passes for 46 yards on Sunday. The second-year wide receiver could have his role expanded due to the season-ending injury of wide receiver Christian Kirk, who suffered a broken collarbone in Sunday’s loss.
Joey Porter Jr., Pittsburgh Steelers
Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. played well in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 26-18 victory over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Porter recorded four solo tackles and four assisted tackles, building on a strong 2024 campaign.
Ji’Ayir Brown, San Fransisco 49ers
Safety Ji’Ayir Brown had another solid performance in the San Francisco 49ers’ 30-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Brown had a first-quarter interception to go along with four solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and one pass defended. He has been extremely reliable for the 49ers, who have been dealing with a plethora of injuries throughout the season.
Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars
Tight end Brenton Strange hauled in five receptions for 59 yards, averaging 11.8 yards per reception in Jacksonville’s loss to Green Bay on National Tight Ends Day.
Other Notables:
- Cornerback Amani Oruwariye totaled six solo and two assisted tackles in the Cowboys’ 30-24 loss to the 49ers.
- Linebacker Odafe Oweh recorded two total tackles in the Baltimore Ravens 29-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
- Linebacker Adisa Isaac recorded one solo tackle and two assisted tackles in the Ravens loss on Sunday.
- Tight end Pat Freiermuth hauled in two receptions for 19 yards in the Steelers’ victory over the Giants on Monday Night Football.
