Penn State Student Accused Of Assault & Strangulation In On-Campus Incident
A Penn State student was accused of strangling his girlfriend in an on-campus incident at Brill Hall. John Yu, 21, was accused of simple assault and strangulation, according to an affidavit.
According to police, an officer was dispatched to Brill Hall at Eastview Terrace on October 27 to respond to a domestic distrubance incident. A man called police after speaking to the victim, who said her boyfriend had choked her in Nelson Hall.
When the police spoke to the victim, she said her boyfriend choked her to the point she could not breathe during an argument between 5 and 6 a.m, according to the affidavit. The officer observed bright red grip marks across the victim’s neck, which were photographed four to five hours after the incident.
“The university is aware of these allegations and this student is currently excluded from campus and all university events, programs, and activities,” a Penn State spokesperson wrote in a statement. “When serious allegations like these are made and are reported to the university, they are addressed through the Student Accountability process. The Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response will review the allegations of misconduct and determine appropriate next steps. The university may take student conduct action in addition to, and separate from, the charges filed by police.”
