Penn State Baseball Adds 11 Recruits On National Signing Day

Penn State baseball successfully signed 11 players to its recruiting class of 2025 on National Signing Day.

The lineup of newcomers included two catchers, seven pitchers, and two shortstops. After reaching the Big Ten Championship game last season, Mike Gambino’s squad will want to use these fresh additions to make an even deeper run in the spring.

Jimmy Gray

Jimmy Gray hails from Aston, Pennsylvania. The 6′, 175-pound catcher holds the No. 8 catcher ranking in Pennsylvania by Perfect Game and was rated as the No. 39 prospect and No. 6 catcher in Pennsylvania by Prep Baseball Report. He batted .330 in his junior year of high school.

Avery Smith

Avery Smith joined Gray as a Pennsylvania native catcher in the Penn State recruiting class of 2025. Hailing from East Greenwood, Prep Baseball Report ranks Smith as the No. 3 catcher in Pennsylvania after he batted .340 in 2024. Perfect Game ranked Smith as the No. 50 prospect and No. 7 catcher in Pennsylvania.

Ren Devereux

Ren Devereux is a right-handed pitcher from Derwood, Maryland, but he plays high school ball in Virginia. He pitched a 1.70 ERA in 2024, and Prep Baseball Report ranks him as the No. 3 right-hander in Maryland, while Perfect Game ranked him as the No. 17 prospect and No. 6 right-hander in the state. Devereux’s fastball tops out at 92 miles per hour.

Braden Leed

Braden Leed is a right-handed pitcher from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Leed went 7-1 in 2024 and posted a 2.32 ERA. Prep Baseball Report ranks him 11th among right-handed pitchers in Pennsylvania, while Perfect Game ranked him as the No. 45 prospect and No. 10 shortstop in New Jersey. His fastball’s max speed also clocks in at 92 mph, according to Prep Baseball Report.

Chase Roberts

Penn State’s first signed infielder of the 2025 recruiting class was Shawnee High School shortstop Chase Roberts. Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game both list Roberts in their top 10 New Jersey shortstop rankings, at No. 8 and No. 10, respectively. Roberts hit four home runs and collected 14 RBIs as a junior.

Peter Thompson

Peter Thompson is a right-handed pitcher hailing from Northbrook, Illinois. Perfect Game ranks him as the No. 24 overall prospect and the No. 8 right-handed pitcher in Illinois, while Prep Baseball Report ranked him as the No. 24 right-hander in Illinois. Thompson chose Penn State over notable collegiate baseball powerhouses such as Auburn and Wake Forest.

Leo Boucher

Leo Boucher added to the list of pitching recruits in Penn State’s 2025 class. Boucher is from Chester, New Hampshire, where he won two state championships with Pinkerton Academy. In 2024, Boucher dominated with a 6-0 record and a 1.11 ERA. Perfect Game ranks him as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 3 right-handed pitcher in New Hampshire, while Prep Baseball Report ranks him as the No. 28 prospect and No. 14 right-hander in New Hampshire.

Robert Brown III

Robert Brown III added to Penn State baseball’s new pitching group. Brown is from North Andover, Massachusetts, where he tossed 43 strikeouts for Phillips Academy Andover in 2024. Perfect Game named him to the All-American First Team All-Region in 2024 and ranks him as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 right-handed pitcher. According to his Perfect Game profile, Brown’s fastball velocity has increased by 18 mph since 2020.

Isaiah Shayter

Isaiah Shayter is a right-handed pitcher from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Shayter tossed 37 strikeouts with a 1.16 ERA in 2024. Perfect Game ranks him as the No. 2 right-hander in Pennsylvania, and Prep Baseball Report ranks him as the No. 18 overall prospect in the state.

Dylan Firmstone

Dylan Firmstone finalized the new group of Nittany Lion pitchers. He is a right-hander from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where he represents Hempfield Area High School. He tossed 23 strikeouts in 23 innings in 2024. Prep Baseball Report ranks him as the No. 17 right-hander in Pennsylvania, while Perfect Game places him as the No. 63 prospect and No. 27 right-handed pitcher in Pennsylvania.

Preston Yaucher

Preston Yaucher is an infielder hailing from Verona, Wisconsin. In 2024, Yaucher batted a staggering .427 average with 33 RBIs and 34 runs. Perfect Game ranks him as the No. 3 overall prospect and No. 1 shortstop in Wisconsin, while Prep Baseball Report has Yaucher as theย No. 6 prospect and No. 1 shortstop in the state.
