Theo Johnson Placed On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

Former Penn State football and current New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Monday afternoon, cutting his NFL rookie year short.

Johnson went down with a foot injury in the Giants’ Thanksgiving day loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The fourth-round pick was having the best day of his young career so far, reeling in five catches for 54 yards.

On the season, Johnson was quietly showcasing signs of offensive life for a struggling Giants team. He collected 29 receptions for 331 yards, averaging 11.4 yards per reception. The highlight of his season and sole touchdown was a 35-yard score against the Washington Commanders on November 3.

Johnson played at Penn State from 2020 to 2023. He played 44 games and totaled 938 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Johnson signed a four-year, $4.85 million rookie contract in May.
