Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week 13 Roundup

The 13th week of NFL action has wrapped up, leaving just five more weeks of regular-season play.

The Nittany Lions took care of business on Saturday, defeating Maryland by a score of 44-7 at Beaver Stadium to finish the regular season. Similarly, Penn State alumni in the NFL took to the field for their respective teams and secured wins of their own.

Let’s see how Penn State alumni fared during week 13 of the NFL regular season.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Running back Saquon Barkley is on a historic trajectory in his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles. During the Eagles’ 24-19 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Barkley rushed for 107 yards on 23 carries, averaging 4.7 yards per attempt, caught two passes for 10 receiving yards, and scored a touchdown on the ground. He is the only running back who’s run for 100-plus yards against the Ravens this season.

Barkley sits atop the NFL in total rushing with 1,499 yards and has a chance to surpass the NFL single-season rushing record. This historic record is held by Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson, who ran for 2,105 yards with the Los Angeles Rams in 1984.

Barkley’s also on pace to beat the Eagles’ single-season rushing record. The record is held by former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, who set the record in 2013 with 1,607 rushing yards.

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys

Linebacker Micah Parsons was a force in the Dallas Cowboys’ 27-20 victory over the New York Giants. Parsons posted three tackles and 1.5 sacks against New York on Thanksgiving.

The former Penn State linebacker has 6.5 sacks on the season, tied for 25th in the league. Parsons has made a substantial impact for the Cowboys since returning from a high ankle injury that kept him sidelined for a month.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Tight end Pat Freiermuth had an impressive outing in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 44-38 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Freiermuth hauled in six receptions for 68 receiving yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati on Sunday. He’s recorded 422 receiving yards on 41 receptions and four touchdowns with the Steelers this season.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars

Wide receiver Parker Washington balled out in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. Washington caught six passes for 103 receiving yards and hauled in a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The second-year wide receiver has caught 16 receptions for 221 yards this season with Jacksonville.

Arnold Ebiketie, Atlanta Falcons

Linebacker Arnold Ebiketie was disruptive for the Atlanta Falcons despite the 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Ebiketie recorded three solo tackles and sacked Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert twice on Sunday. The former Penn State linebacker has accumulated three sacks, 27 total tackles, and one pass defended for the Atlanta Falcons this season.

Ji’Ayir Brown, San Francsico 49ers

Safety Ji’Ayir Brown has been reliable on a bruised and battered San Francisco 49ers defense this season. In San Francisco’s 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Brown recorded five solo tackles and three assisted tackles in the snow.

Other Notables:

  • Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. recorded five tackles in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • Tight end Mike Gesicki posted a solid stat line in the Bengals’ loss to the Steelers, hauling in five receptions for 53 yards.
  • Wide receiver Jahan Dotson hauled in one reception for seven yards in Philadelphia’s win over Baltimore.
  • Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones recorded three tackles in the Bills’ victory over the 49ers.
  • Linebacker Odafe Oweh posted a single assisted tackle in the Ravens’ loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
  • Defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos recorded four tackles in the 49ers’ loss to the Bills.
