Penn State Football Jumps To No. 3 In College Football Playoff Rankings

Penn State football moved up one spot to No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday evening. The bump came after Michigan upset No. 2 Ohio State 13-10 and the Nittany Lions handled Maryland 44-7 on Saturday. Penn State was seeded No. 5 and is projected to face No. 15 Arizona State.

Once again, the top five look different than they did the week before. Oregon is still No. 1 and is the only team to finish 12-0 this season, but Texas is No. 2, Penn State is No. 3, Notre Dame is No. 4, and Georgia is No. 5.

More upsets in the world of college football happened over the weekend. Michigan upset Ohio State in Columbus, Syracuse beat No. 6 Miami, and No. 15 South Carolina took down No. 12 Clemson.

This week is conference championship week. The SEC Championship will feature No. 2 Texas and No. 5 Georgia, No. 17 Clemson will face No. 8 SMU in the ACC Championship, the Big 12 Championship will feature No. 15 Arizona State and No. 16 Iowa State, and No. 10 Boise State will host No. 20 UNLV in the Mountain West Championship.

Penn State will play Oregon in the Big Ten Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. This will be the Ducks’ first-ever Big Ten Championship and the Nittany Lions’ second appearance of the James Franklin era since defeating Wisconsin 38-31 in 2016. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, and air on CBS.
