Penn State Football Opens As 3.5-Point Underdogs Against Oregon

The Nittany Lions are finally back in the Big Ten Championship, folks.

After eight long years, Penn State football will return to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship to take on Oregon.

DraftKings has set the opening line for the game at 3.5 points in favor of Oregon, marking only the second time this season that Penn State came into a matchup as the underdog after the Nittany Lions were underdogs against Ohio State. The game also sports an over/under of 49.5 and a money line of -170 for the Ducks and +140 for the Nittany Lions.

So far this season, both teams are identical: 6-6 against the spread and 5-7 against the over/under, according to OddsShark. In the minimal matchup history between these two teams, Penn State sits at 3-1 in head-to-head matchups, winning 38-20 in the team’s last contest back in the 1994 Rose Bowl.

Stats To Know

Two interesting stats to look for in this game also rival each other. Penn State is 8-1 against the spread in its last nine games played in December. However, Penn State is also 1-6 against the spread in its last seven games when it is the underdog, according to OddsShark.

Pick Of The Week (1-1)

Over 49.5 at -110.

Combining a warm indoor stadium with two of the highest-powered offenses in the Big Ten certainly calls for a high-scoring game. Oregon has scored over 30 points in 10 of its 12 games while Penn State has done the same in seven of its matchups.
