Abdul Carter Named AP Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Year
Penn State football defensive end Abdul Carter has been named the AP Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, the Associated Press announced Tuesday. Carter was also named to the All-Big Ten defensive first team.
Coming into the season, there were a lot of eyes on Carter as he made his transition from being an off-ball linebacker to playing as an edge rusher. Carter racked up 19.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks this year.
Carter was also named the Nagurski-Wooden Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, the first Nittany Lion to receive the honor since Carl Nassib in 2015. Additionally, Carter took home the Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year Award and was named First-Team All-Big Ten by coaches and the media.
Carter is also a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the best defensive player in college football, and the Lombardi Award, given to the best lineman in college football.
Carter is expected to declare for the NFL Draft after the college season concludes and is projected to be drafted within the top 10 on most analysts’ draft boards.
