Izzy Starck Named AVCA East Coast Region Freshman Of The Year
Penn State women’s volleyball Izzy Starck was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) East Coast Region Freshman of the Year, the association announced Tuesday.
Starck had an impressive season for the Nittany Lions, racking up 1,288 assists in 117 sets played this season. Starck is ninth in the NCAA in assists and is the only freshman among the top 10.
Starck’s play during the season was consistently recognized as she won several Big Ten Setter of the Week and Freshman of the Week awards. She was an integral part of Penn State earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and winning a share of the Big Ten Championship.
Starck was also named to the AVCA All-East Coast Region team alongside teammates Jess Murzik, Taylor Trammell, and Camryn Hannah.
Starck and Penn State return to action Friday, December 13, when they face Marquette in Rec Hall, following the match between Creighton and Texas. If they win, the Nittany Lions will play the winner of Creighton and Texas in the NCAA Regional final at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 15.
