Two Penn State Men’s Soccer Players Selected In MLS SuperDraft
Penn State men’s soccer players Caden Grabfelder and Mohamed Cisset were selected in the MLS SuperDraft on Friday. CF Montreal picked up Grabfelder in the 2nd round with the 50th overall pick, and FC Dallas selected Cisset in the 3rd round with the 71st overall pick.
Grabfelder has played 33 games as a Nittany Lion, totaling seven goals and four assists in his time with the Nittany Lions. In his 2023 freshman season, he was named No. 14 on TopDrawerSoccer’s Postseason Top 100 Freshmen. Grabfelder worked his way up the national soccer ranks through the Philadelphia Union’s academy and with FC Delco in MLS Next.
Grabfelder will head north to Canada to join a CF Montreal team that failed to reach last season’s MLS playoffs, falling to Atlanta United in the play-in match.
Cisset, a Montreal native, will not head to his hometown MLS team that his teammate was selected by. The sophomore defender that served as Penn State’s wall at the back in the 2024 season will head to FC Dallas, who finished 11th in the Western Conference last season with a staggering 56 goals conceded.
Cisset started 25 games for the Nittany Lions and played in 31 total. In his 2023 freshman season, he was named No. 74 in TopDrawerSoccer’s Top 100 Freshmen. Cisset also earned a bid to play on Team Mali for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he appeared in its matches against Japan and Paraguay.
He only scored one goal in the blue and white, but as a defender, he was working on keeping them out of Penn State’s net. His impact on the team doesn’t pop out on the stat sheet, but he was Penn State’s most important player on the back line in 2024.
The pair of Nittany Lions are the first Penn Staters to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft since Jalen Watson, Andrew Privett, and Liam Butts in 2022.
